Young Playwright’s Competition
Li’l Buds Theatre Company proudly presents the first annual Young Playwrights Contest 2014
A night of original short plays inspired by stories written by second graders
Saturday November 1, 2014 at Senn Hall.
Li’l Buds Theatre presents four short plays written as part of our second grade play residency at The Frances Xavier Warde School. These plays are so original and creative that only a child’s mind could have written them. We are taking the ideas of these creative young artists and bringing them to the stage for all to enjoy. This is the first time in our 9 years that we are melding our high caliber educational programming with our superior professional performance season. The students submitted original short stories and twelve were selected and workshopped and adapted by Li’l Buds teaching artists and the students themselves to create 5 minute plays. Well we have selected the top 4 and will be presenting them to the general public for the first time performed by professional actors here in Chicago. These are hysterical fast paced short plays that will engage and entertain audiences of all ages. The audience will vote at the end of the night and the winning play will be adapted by Li’l Buds and expanded into an original 60-75 minute play to be produced in our Spring 2016 season at our new home the EDGE Theatre which is expected to open in the winter of 2015.
King LaLa’s Adventure inspired from story written by second grader Joseph Clayton
Super Spy World inspired from story written by Isabella Concepcion
The Dragon and the Princess inspired from story written by Ethan Laughlin
Mysterious Thought Land inspired by story written by Annika Sahrawat
Director: Jeff Predmore
Assistant Director: Maggie Portman (Jeff Award Winning Actor and Nominated Choreographer)
The audience will vote and be asked to give suggestions and comments on how to expand the winning play. These suggestions from the audience will be incorporated into expanding it into a full one act play for families to be produced in our Spring 2016 season at our new home The Edge theater.
